Dr. Tamara Ticktin, professor of botany at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, blends scientific rigor with creativity, collaboration, and deep engagement with place in her teaching. “I love Professor Ticktin, I hope to take another class with her again! So many of her studies were used in my other classes and she makes an impact both inside and outside of the classroom. She makes the classroom a safe space for everyone to speak on their beliefs and perspectives in regards to global issues. She neither agrees or disagrees blatantly on our points of view but much rather asks us questions to truly understand the way we think, and why. She allowed me to grow and form my own strong opinion throughout this course. I enjoyed this class even if it was terrifying to speak everyone made sure everyone felt heard due to the guidance of Professor Ticktin.”
