You-il (Chris) Park

School of Accountancy

You-il Park of the School of Accountancy at UH Mānoa fosters both a deep understanding of accounting concepts and practical skills that comes in handy when students need “to analyze and address challenges faced by real-world firms.” He is intentional in his teaching to “bridge theory with practice,”  emphasizing the importance of “critical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork skills” for his students. Filled with group discussions, student presentations, and examinations with immediate personalized feedback, his classes defy the conventions of a typical accounting class. Professor Park knows how to help students develop their quantitative and information literacy skills through incorporating case studies, discussions, financial data sources, academic articles, and many more in his courses. Prof. Park’s teaching excellence is evident in his consistently outstanding course evaluations over the years. A student wrote that he “was knowledgeable about the subject and showed that he really cared about students’ learning and future as accountants.” They also noted that due to various effective teaching strategies he implemented in his classes, “students were able to learn about teamwork and how to prepare professional presentations to practice for future careers.”
