Professor of Kinesiology and Rehabilitation Sciences at UH Mānoa, Kaori Tamura’s self-professed “goal is to help students develop a strong foundation to become knowledgeable, effective, and caring allied healthcare professionals.” While training her students to provide “patient-centered care” as professionals, she actively works to help students build confidence; Prof. Tamura implements simulation-based learning to “better prepare students for real-life work environments. Her accomplishments include collaborating with School of Nursing and the Institute of Teacher Education at the College of Education to develop a Sports Concussion Injury Management program; collaboratively launching a Virtual Athletic Training Faculty Series “to provide additional opportunities to connect with students and faculty from different programs;” and working with Ritsumeikan University, Japan, which culminated in the Hawai’i International Athletic Training Education Clinic for Japanese athletic training students. Her students find her teaching “incredibly engaging… easy to understand and enjoyable.” It is evident that Prof. Tamura has succeeded in her mission to “make the learning experience more enjoyable for each student.”
