SHAKA, A Story of Aloha uncovers the mysterious origin story of the shaka. In the film, Steve Sue and Kekela Miller work together to retell the stories that the people of Hawaiʻi have shared about the shaka, dating back to the very first time it was used. The film explores the diverse cultural significance that the shaka holds in Hawaiʻi, and how the gesture has spread to the world. More info at shakafilm.com.
Reception and film screening will be followed by a conversation and discussion with the director Alexander Bocchieri, producer/writer Steve Sue, and Dr. Lori Furoyama.
