It’s All about Great Teaching

Friday, February 21, 2025
9:00 am – 11:00 am
Kuykendall 106 Events Room

“Facilitated ‘shop talk’ is the highest form of professional development,” according to David Gottshall, the co-Father of the 55-year-old Great Teachers Seminar and its permutations of Great Staff, Great College, and Great Leader. Together, we will engage in facilitated “shop talk,” with the objective of becoming even “better” at what we do in our classrooms. In essence, we are on a never-ending quest for the great teacher we all aspire to be–that version of ourselves who is “very good” at what we do in our classes–the great teacher within each of us. Our focal points are our own teaching and the nature of the great teacher, per se.

Prerequisites: Willingness to share what you know about teaching with other teachers.

Pre-Workshop Homework: Please think of each of the following before coming to the workshop:

  1. A Success Story: Think of something you do in your classes that works well with students and that others might choose to adopt/adapt in their own teaching.
  2. A book that has significantly influenced your teaching. The collection of books is our immediate professional library. If you can, please bring the book with you to the workshop.
