Disability Studies in Action: Practices and Revisions in the Classroom

Monday, April 18, 2022
11:30 am–12:45 pm
Online Event

As we approach the end of the school year, please join us for lunch at the Disability Studies Initiative’s second installment of its faculty roundtable series. DSI understands educators play a crucial role in shaping disability awareness, expanding the scope of education, and responding to the world transformed by the Covid 19 pandemic. Our roundtable highlights faculty and lecturers from across UH-Mānoa’s campus who are engaged in the critical work of incorporating disability into their course designs. In this next installment, we feature Dax Garcia (Department of English), Dr. Benjamin Lukey (Department of Philosophy), and Dr. Thomas Conway (Center on Disability Studies). They will offer concrete practices and examples that have helped students think more critically about disability. Faculty presentations may cover concrete assignments, useful readings and other course materials, or technological innovations and pedagogical approaches.

The Roundtable will be moderated by Professor Katharina Heyer (Political Science).

This event is co-sponsored by the Disability Studies Initiative (DSI), the Department of Political Science, and the OFDAS Center for Teaching Excellence.
